Rise and Report (items arising from closed meeting):
• Council approved adding two names to the Street Name Database – ‘Dashwood’ and ‘Norah’
Council Meeting:
• Council received presentations from the Ladysmith Resources Centre Association report
o The presentation included slides on addressing safety concerns around the temporary shelter, including establishing structured daytime programs for clients and a Good Neighbours program where by staff would, once per shift do a review of the neighbourhood within a one block radius to clean up any drug and other debris.
• Council received a presentation from Ladysmith Search & Rescue (SAR) regarding their programs and services
o Ladysmith SAR noted that the new plans for Mountain Bike trails will increase the need for their services, and that they would appreciate being a stakeholder when discussions of town space were underway.
o The shared that they are a hosting and recruitment open house on Thursday June 25 at 7pm at their location, by the Town works yard.
• Council approved the Town of Ladysmith's 2025 Annual Municipal Report.
• Council approved the 2025 Statement of Financial Information.
• Council received a report regarding outstanding 2026 business licences, noting some have been paid
• Council awarded the RCMP HVAC Upgrade contract to SMS Summit Mechanical Systems Ltd. for $278,970 (excluding GST).
• Council approved the purchase of new solid waste collection bins and confirmed the move to semi-automated curbside collection beginning in 2027.
o Council rejected the recommendation to discontinue the annual Big Item Pickup Program and voted to continue the service for residents. Voting to save this program, Councillors Virtanen, Stevens, Jacobson and Mayor Beeston
• Council gave first, second, and third readings to a Parks Usage Bylaw amendment establishing permits and fees for mobile food vendors operating in Town parks.
