Last Night at Council – September 1, 2026
Council met Tuesday evening, September 1, with Councillor Amanda Jacobson absent. The meeting was held electronically.
Council reported that Iain Bourhill, Director of Development Services, was appointed to bid on residential properties included in the annual Tax Sale.
Permissive Tax Exemptions
Council considered the Town's permissive tax exemptions for 2027.
Council directed staff to prepare the 2027 bylaw maintaining the current exemption levels, with the addition of the Arts Council of Ladysmith and District for the area it occupies within the Machine Shop.
Fully exempt properties will also be removed from the 2027 water and sewer parcel tax rolls.
The motion passed, with Councillor Marsh Stevens opposed.
Sandy Beach Pump Station – Emergency Repairs
Council approved $400,000 to be transferred from the Sewer UV Phase 3 Construction project to the Sandy Beach Pump Station Emergency Repairs project.
Council also awarded the repair contract to Ridgeline Mechanical Ltd. for $319,724 plus GST.
This is emergency work on existing sewer infrastructure.
Stocking Lake Dam Projects
Council received an update on the Town's water supply projects and approved an increase of $198,358 plus GST to the design fees for the Stocking Lake Dam Design Project.
Council transferred $200,000 from the Stocking Lake Dam Construction budget to the Design budget to cover the additional costs.
